Two Dog Farm is located near Davenport, north of Santa Cruz.We grow most of our crops about a mile inland from the ocean
surrounded by Big Basin State Park. It is a beautiful, pristine valley and we feel lucky to work here.
You can see the field where we grow the irrigated
crops and the unwatered cherry tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes if you hike up the horse trail about a mile. We are the 2 acre
field on the right with the plum tree in the middle.
The greens field on a typical early
morning. It's nice to harvest in the cool and watch the light fill the valley.
The tomato field is just across the creek from the greens.
We pack tomatoes in the afternoon in the shade of a big madrone tree.
It's amazing how well the tomatoes grow with absolutely no water ever. It must be the good soil and mellow climate. Sure
makes for delicious tomatoes!
Here's Tahni at our other field south of Davenport. It's just up one marine
terrace from Highway 1. It can be so windy there! There is no water anywhere here, but the soil is surprisingly good. We grow
winter squash in this field. We had to fence it to keep out deer and feral pigs and to keep the dogs in. Our dogs love being
out in the fields. Sometimes they dig and catch gophers, often they just enjoy running around.
